It has been one month since the World Health Organization, WHO, received a health report regarding the discovery of acute hepatitis. Exactly on April 5, 2022, WHO received a report from the United Kingdom regarding 10 cases of Acute Hepatitis in children aged 11 months to 5 years old in the within January to March 2022. Furthermore, WHO reaffirmed that Acute Hepatitis is an Extraordinary Event due to the increase in the number of cases to 169 cases in 12 countries.
Who can be affected?
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Acute Hepatitis can attack children aged 1 month to 16 years old. After conducting further laboratory research, no hepatitis A, B, C, D and E viruses were found in the patient. Then a big question for the world what causes the occurrence of this Acute Hepatitis. One of the government's allegations, this disease is caused by Adenovirus which was found in about 74 cases of Acute Hepatitis.
Symptoms of Acute Hepatitis
Based on data from the "Ikatan Dokter Anak Indonesia" in collaboration with the "Ikatan Dokter Indonesia", several symptoms were found in patients with acute hepatitis. The symptoms are:
- loss of consciousness
- high fever
- The color of urine in children turns darker
- There is a change in the color of the child's skin becomes more yellow
- Joint pain or aches
- Feeling nauseous or abdominal pain until vomiting
- Body feels sluggish
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhea
Treatment and Prevention
Acute Hepatitis is suspected to be contagious quickly, so it is very important for you to understand how to prevent it. You can take steps to prevent the spread of the Acute Hepatitis virus by:
- Keep your hands clean by washing your hands regularly
- Make sure the food and drinks consumed are clean and cooked
- If your child is still using a diaper, make sure the baby's diaper or stool is cleaned properly. Dispose diaper waste regularly.
- Use your own cutlery. Try not to use your little one interchangeably eating utensils.
- Wear a mask and keep your distance
Currently, the treatment you can do if your child experiences these symptoms is to immediately consult a pediatrician. If any of these symptoms are found, you are strongly advised to remain calm, do not panic and consult your pediatrician or if your child is in an emergency situation, immediately visit the Emergency so that the first treatment can be done immediately.
