What is Urticaria or Hives?

Hives or urticaria is a red rash that appears on the skin which is usually due to an allergic reaction. However, this condition can also be triggered by several other things such as stress, side effects of medication, insect bites, temperatures that are too cold or too hot, and infections.

Hives can be said to be a disease that often occurs in women and men at all ages. However, the severity of Urticaria varies depending on the cause.

Symptoms of Urticaria

Hives have symptoms that can be seen with the naked eye. Reddish skin, small bumps like bumps on the skin and very itchy feeling are usually one of the symptoms of Uticaria. Urticaria can appear in one part of the body and then spread.

Urticaria can be caused by various things, including drugs, food, insect bites, infections, psychic, inhalants or chemicals, spores, air, and even genetic factors.

Urticaria is not dangerous as long as the cause does not cause side effects such as dizziness, swelling in the eye or mouth area, shortness of breath and weakness. If you feel these side effects, you are advised to seek medical help immediately. These symptoms indicate a severe allergic reaction and require immediate treatment.

Treatment that can be done at home (Urticaria Treatment)

If Uticaria is not accompanied by other symptoms and the itching is not severe, you do the following as a first treatment:

Stay away from trigger factors for Urticaria

Identify what triggers urticaria to occur, such as making sure the food you eat is safe and rechecking your psychic condition, if you are in a stressful condition then do relaxation to reduce stress.

2. Use cold compress

Put something cold on the area of your skin where Urticaria occurs to relieve irritation and relieve itching. Use an ice cube covered with a towel and apply it to the Urticaria area for 10-15 minutes.

3. Keep the atmosphere cool

A hot room temperature can make itching worse. When Utikaria is on the rise, you can wear clothes that are light and loose, and made from comfortable and breathable fabrics. Make sure the room air temperature remains cool and comfortable.

Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or hot showers, to prevent recurrence of hives.

Further medical treatment

If your symptoms are getting worse or do not decrease, you should immediately consult a doctor to prevent complications such as shortness of breath.
